This song appeared in 1981, but seems very relevant to our present situation. Lyrics  are posted below the video (sorry, I couldn't find a version with on-screen lyrics).

Heaven 17, (We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang

Quote
(Everybody move to prove the groove)

Have you heard it on the news
About this fascist groove thang
Evil men with racist views
Spreading all across the land
Don't just sit there on your ass
Unlock that funky chaindance
Brothers, sisters shoot your best
We don't need this fascist groove thang

Brothers, sisters, we don't need this fascist groove thang

History will repeat itself
Crisis point we're near the hour
Counterforce will do no good
Hot you ass I feel your power
Hitler proves that funky stuff
Is not for you and me girl
Europe's an unhappy land
They've had their fascist groove thang

Brothers, sisters, we don't need this fascist groove thang

Democrats are out of power
Across that great wide ocean
Reagan's president elect
Fascist god in motion
Generals tell him what to do
Stop your good time dancing
Train their guns on me and you
Fascist thang advancing

Sisters, brothers lend a hand
Increase our population
Grab that groove thang by the throat
And throw it in the ocean
You're real tonight you move my soul
Let's cruise out of the dance war
Come out your house and dance your dance
Shake that fascist groove thang
(Shake it!)

Brothers, sisters, we don't need this fascist groove thang

Sorry for posting the above song without annotation. I was 15 when I met my ex. He was 20, and the relationship was fine while I was just a little girl, flattered by the attention of an older man and willing to accept his words and deeds as gospel.

Then I began to grow up. He wasn't too keen on this, and by the time we split up when I was 23, the relationship had become abusive. The reason I like that song is because it reminds me that that person only liked girls, not women, if that makes sense?

Anyway, now for something happier. This is a nice video accompanying the tune "King of the Fairies" as played by the Horsplips. The band is playing on top of the Bank of Ireland building in Baggott St in Dublin, and shows the skyline of that city during the 70s.

By the way, no-one else seems to be posting in this thread. I hope I haven't wrecked it.  :-(

Sandie Shaw sings "Hand in Glove" with the Smiths. Probably my favourite version of the song. Lyrics posted below the video.

Quote
Hand in glove
The sun shines out of our behinds
No, it's not like any other love
This one is different - because it's us

Hand in glove
We can go wherever we please
And everything depends upon
How near you stand to me

And if the people stare
Then the people stare
Oh, I really don't know and I really don't care

Kiss my shades

Hand in glove
The good people laugh
Yes, we may be hidden by rags
But we've something they'll never have

Hand in glove
The sun shines out of our behinds
Yes, we may be hidden by rags
But we've something they'll never have

And if the people stare
Then the people stare
Oh, I really don't know and I really don't care

Kiss my shades...oh...

So, hand in glove I stake my claim
I'll fight to the last breath

If they dare touch a hair on your head
I'll fight to the last breath

For the good life is out there somewhere
So stay on my arm, you little charmer

But I know my luck too well
Yes, I know my luck too well
And I'll probably never see you again
I'll probably never see you again
I'll probably never see you again
Oh

Wow I am glad I watched that to the end it is a powerful video.

Quote
But every time it rains
You're here in my head
Like the sun coming out
Looks the sun coming out
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen
And I don't know when
But just saying it could even make it happen

 >thumbsup< >star<

The video was originally conceived as a short film by Kate Bush and Terry Gilliam, although it was not directed by him.

There's lots more information about the song and the book that inspired it here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudbusting

Part of the song was sampled and used by Utah Saints in their song 'Something Good', originally released in 1992. This song was remixed and released again in 2008, with a video that is also well worth watching to the end, as it's quite amusing!
