PIP medical on 5th Dec and terrified!
« on: November 21, 2017, 07:32:06 PM »
Hi I am currently undergoing a joint PIP and ESA review. DLA to PIP changeover to be exact.  ESA I have heard nothing at all and its 8 weeks now. PIP changeover,  I got the form while still completing the ESA50 so was gobsmacked to be having to deal with both at once!
Today I got the dreaded phone call for a PIP medical. They wanted me to go in 2 days to start with but I had medical appointments so managed to get it delayed until 5th December..2 weeks today.
I am dreading this! I have read so many horror stories that I am freaking out. I have someone to go with me but its dealing with the whole thing....its getting too much.

Hi, so sorry to hear they are putting you through both at the same time.  I'm going through the ESA one myself and have found it extremely stressful and have medical in over 2 wks which I'm absolutely dreading.   Take a deep breathe and hang in there OK.  I'm sure someone will come along soon with more knowledge and advice than I can give.   All the best OK.

X

Thanks, you too.  They hadnt even received my form before sending me for a medical so all that stress was for nothing.  Anyway, hope it goes well for you.  :)

Indeed it's not ideal to be facing two benefit assessments at the same time... but I have a feeling that one might 'trigger' the other, as within a couple of weeks of my own PIP decision I had an ESA50 plopping through the letterbox.  It doesn't all mean bad news though, even the dreaded 'medical' - I know someone who recently had a PIP face-to-face assessment and was subsequently awarded the enhanced daily living rate... Of course, the 'horror stories' are more newsworthy, as it were - so certainly don't assume that a medical automatically means a nil award!  PIP is still relatively new, so it can be more like a lottery, I think  >erm<

The ESA decision delay may well be due to waiting for a PIP decision first, so try to put that one aside for the now - keeping these  >x-fingers< for both of you anyway  >x-fingers<

>edit for too many repetititions of the word 'news'  >doh<<

Thank you. I am so hoping its not as bad as I read. I hope no news is good news on my ESA I do not think I could do 2 of these medicals.
My mind is just a mess right now with worry

The same thing happened to me - my changeover from DLA to PIP triggered yet another ESA-50 form for me to complete - both had to be done at the same time. They waited until the outcome of my PIP claim was known before confirming the outcome of my ESA review. I suspected that they were using the PIP claim to inform the decision on the ESA and as it turned out, that was what happened - I received a text from the DWP telling me that my recent medical had not affected my claim for ESA!  That was before I actually got my letter confirming that I would remain in the ESA support Group (I've had 4 identical ESA decisions without ever being called for a medical).  The only medical I've had was for my PIP claim.

I attended a centre for the PIP medical and it was fine - my experience was nothing like the horror stories. There was absolutely nothing I could complain about or fault in terms of the way I was treated or the outcome. Maybe I was just lucky, I don't know.  The paperwork they sent said that they would prefer you to take someone to the assessment so I did that. I'd provided clear and detailed narrative information about how my disability affected me for each of the questions so really the assessor was wasting his time - he was verbally asking me the same questions as were on the form for which I'd already provided the detailed written answers so there was nothing much to add and no point in. him re-typing all my answers word for word! I have complex, rare conditions that most medical professionals have never heard of so I was really worried because I don't have lots of nice clear medical notes and a well known diagnosis but it didn't seem to be an issue.

Hi and thank you for sharing your experience. Yes it does seem that ESA and PIP are linking together in some way.
My ESA50 and PIP form were both written with full information on how my disabilities affect me and I also sent in lots of supporting evidence too from specialists. But it has worn me down this last few weeks. I am mentally and physically burnt out so the call yesterday was almost the final straw.
It is nice to read that someone had decent experience with the  medical. I have only read terrible things so far and I was at the point yesterday of wanting to just not go and give up. I was on indefinite DLA and the only thing that kept me going through the last 3 ESA reviews was that DLA was safe - alas I was wrong! Nothing is anymore! I have 2 weeks to try and raise my energy to face it now annd just hope it goes ok. I do not think I could go through appeals after this, its all too much

So today I get 2 letters the same from PIP or Atos? saying they have written to people involved with my treatment or care for more information. Once they have reviewed the information they may be able to finish my assessment report for the DWP without being able to see me....Wonderful you would think! But no....because they have already given me a date for a medical! I called my CPN who they wrote to...he got this letter asking for more information today...a day after they called to give me a medical. How is this fair? He has had zero time to get what they need back to them and maybe avoid me having a medical! How cruel sending that letter out when they had no intention of waiting!
I am so sick of this whole thing. None of it is done fairly, stupid time frames when they can take months and they can cheat their own system at will! I am at my wits end!
