Transcribing.
« on: February 07, 2012, 01:39:58 PM »
We need volunteers to transcribe information from things like news items on the tv or You Tube videos.

If you want to be added to the list of volunteers please add you name and any comments to this thread.
Thank you

I'll try my hand at a bit of transcribing.  I'll be a slow as anything - concentration of a fruit fly - but will do my best.  :-)

Also likely to be slow but willing to give it a try.
This would probably need quite a few people because if somebody posts a link but 1 transcriber is unwell, another is out, etc. it could easily be a day or two before anybody is able to do it.  Better to have a dozen slow transcribers than 3 fast ones who aren't online!

Thank you both, hopefully we will get some more people volunteering for this. I know they are out there because they transcribed a recorded speech into text for the Spartacus campaign.

Part of the reason we are asking for people to post in the volunteer section is that we want to have a better idea of what people would be okay doing spoons permitting.

I would be happy to have a go at transcribing when the need arises.

I know this thread is for transcribing volunteers but right now we need people to proofread the information in the new Welfare Rights section, so if you could go to the homepage http://ouchtoo.org/ and have a look through the Welfare Rights section that would be great.

Would there be any scope at all for adding links to the information needed for claimants in Northern Ireland to any of the benefits threads, or would that just be complicating matters? The Social Security Agency site has downloadable forms for ESA and NI Direct has an online service for claiming DLA and Attendance Allowance.

Minor formatting error in this paragraph:

"If this change takes place, people who receive income-related ESA and contribution-based ESA will lose the contributory element. The income-related element of your ESA will be adjusted to take this into account and will continue.

A few spellings/ mistypings...
"stratergy" in the para following the quote should read "strategy"
"foward" in the last long para should read "forward"
"500 response" should read "500 responses"
"occassion" should read "occasion"
"There has been further requests" change to either "There have been further requests" or "...has been a further request"
"emails or letters wich" to "e-mails or letters which"
"...the people who for one reason or another did not write out a email or letter in their own words that it is quite likey it was discounted" to ?perhaps "the views of people who did not or could not write in their own words were likely to be discounted"

That's the kind of thing I'm likely to notice; is it at all useful?  I'm not likely to alter the sense of what's written unless I think it's difficult to follow, but will often pick up spelling or grammar.  I will of course miss some & might introduce some of my own, so it's always good to have more than one checker!

Well done, seegee, you picked up more typo's than I did  :-)

Sunny, I am very aware that it can feel very nasty to have people picking on simple human errors. Please tell us when you want us to stop!
