At last a bit of good news! On Saturday, Mum got a letter from the consultant opthamologist she saw on Tuesday, confirming that the pressure in her eye is now well down into the normal range, and that she can now resume driving short distances. Hopefully she will have her surgery at the end of July.  >x-fingers<

Of course, today Mum got a phone call from the cardio people, giving her an appointment to discuss her heart valve operation.

You wait years for surgery, then two lots turn up at once!

 >bighugs< great news. It is amazing what medical science can do when you get to the top of the list.

Fantastic example of NHS-style 'joined-up thinking' then  ;-)

Very pleased for your Mum, she is getting what she needs medically at last  >thumbsup<

I was at the garden centre yesterday!  >yikes<

Support worker collected me at a quiet time of day, and we headed off. The centre is part of a larger DIY/home improvement store, and at that time of day, we had the place more or less to ourselves. There was also no music being played in the store, so ambient noise was minimal, which helped a great deal. I was even able to sit next to the cashdesk while the plants and pots we'd chosen were rung through, although I couldn't interract with the lady staffing the till. Still, given that I haven't set wheel in a shop since well before Christmas, it's a significant step.

So I now have some lovely geraniums, lobelia and lavender plants to go with the marigolds and nasturtiums already out at the front of the house.

Well done NN. When I have not been to a shop in a long while I find the till bit difficult and have been known to hand Mr Sunshine my debit card and run (wheel) away.

Auntie and Sunshine, thank you!  >hugs< >hugs<

Another bonus is my support worker having a car, so we could get to and from the centre via the least stressful means.

I'm quite fond of garden centres, even though I don't have a garden of my own... the best ones do lots of non-plant things like household items, books, jigsaws, confectionery....a delicious lunch menu  >tongue-smile< Glad you've still got a support worker who will take you to places like that, NN >green-fingered smiley<  >thumbsup<

This is a support worker I'm paying for myself, rather than one supplied by the trust. It's proving to be a good use of funds, especially this week, as I've needed help in getting things prepared for Mum's first round of eye surgery (scheduled for 12.30 tomorrow afternoon).

Just got off the phone to Mum's friend and neighbour who drove her to and from the hospital today, and who is staying with her tonight. The procedure went really well, and Mum is home and tucked up in bed having a rest.  >whatarelief<
