Quote
Members of the Heenan-Anderson commission will have their listening ears on as Labour leader Ed Miliband joins them to hear from local individuals and groups in a public meeting on Thursday 22 January in the Ulster University Belfast campus from 10am to 12.30pm. The Labour leader will also deliver a keynote address.

The commission Ė launched by the Shadow Secretary of State Ivan Lewis back in November Ė are keen to views on the root causes of intergenerational economic marginalisation and deprivation in Northern Ireland. Individuals and organisations have until the end of January to submit their ideas.

Their groupís report will be published in time to feed into Labourís General Election manifesto, and should Labour form the next government the commissionís proposals should influence NIO policy on tackling inequality and allowing people to have a greater stake in the economy.

If you want to attend, drop an email to rsvp AT heenan-anderson DOT org by 5pm on 20 January.

Personally I think it would be great to have the hall packed out with sick and disabled people and carers rather than the usual suspects.  After all, we've a fair amount to say on the subject of being economically marginalised and disadvantaged.

The blogger 'Alan in Belfast' gives a synopsis of the event here:

The article contains a number of links to an audio recording of Miliband's speech and the Q&A session afterwards.
