Social housing
« on: October 16, 2018, 04:45:30 PM »
Does anyone know the rules for social housing as in how long you are allowed to stay away from the property for? I'm not coping well and wondering if staying with a relative 80 miles away would be safer but don't want to break any rules.

It is any household/contents insurance you have that could be one problem. That usually stipulates 60 days.
How long otherwise should be on your tenancy agreement.

I don't have any insurance. Income struggle plus no valuable possessions rule that out. From a Google the problem would be how long housing benefit would be paid for but it seems as if a 24 stay back in my house would restart the clock so an 160 mile return trip would restart it. It's whether a stay of any length with my sister is viable as our relationship has never been close. But if I don't feel safe alone I may ask.

housing benefit can be paid for up to 13 week as long as you intend to return to your home, you tenancy agreement might be different though an be around 4 weeks unless you are in hospital.
