Thanks for the ideas everyone - spent quite a while seeking wassail & other midwinter songs & found a few (new ones with written music, most of the old ones without - but I bet our music-man could write some or knows someone who can).  I've sent them on, including the suggestions here.   >thankyou<

I have something to be cheerful about at last my grandson has passed his level two course electrical installation and has been accepted onto the level three course starting in September and he started on the first day of his  apprenticeship this Monday. Brilliant because of illness he didn't complete school so had no GCSE's or owt but has pulled himself up by his bootstraps so to speak.

He sounds as though he will become a great person through his own efforts.  You must be very proud of him.

I am the company hadn't even considered taking on apprentices till he phoned them up and nagged them into it.

I sent the school that had treated him so badly an email this morning saying see what he has done despite you.

Met up with an ex neighbour of mine today who I hadn't seen for a few years. She is spending the weekend on Brownsea Island so we met on Poole Quay and had a bite and a chat while she waited for her ferry.

Despite the dire weather forecast it was quite fine apart for a very short, light shower. Warm sunshine but a cool breeze. Quite pleasant actually.

It was nowhere near as bad as forecast in London over the weekend. A few showers, some of them heavy, on Saturday but otherwise pleasantly warm and dry.
