Ecuador is not a rich country, but it was felt that the Ecuadorian poet, José Olmedo, deserved a statue in his honour.
Instead of commissioning a sculptor to do the job however, it was decided to make do with an unwanted statue of the English poet, Lord Byron.

Dorothy Parker, on a work of fiction:

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.

The following instruction is alleged to have originated from the Admiralty in London:

It is neccessary for technical reasons that these warheads should be stored upside-down.
That is, with the top at the bottom and the bottom at the top.
In order that there may be no doubt as to which is the bottom and which is the top,
for storage purposes it will be seen that the bottom of each warhead has been labelled
with the word 'TOP'.
Bless 'em all, bless 'em all,

During a Charity Ball, George Bernard Shaw asked a dowager for a dance.
The lady exclaimed, ' Oh, Mr. Shaw, what made you ask poor little me to dance?'

To which Shaw replied, 'Well. this is a charity ball, isn't it?'
Bless 'em all, bless 'em all,
The long and the short and the tall.

One of my favourites is from Malachy Mccourt (Irish-American actor, politician)
"To harbour resentment is like swallowing poison and waiting for the other person to die"

I like this thread... Better than Quote, unquote. Funnier....

Latin tempers frayed and passengers were on the point of mutiny aboard a plane delayed for three hours at Madrid Airport. Tough Civil Guards, armed with machine guns, were even summoned to quell the unrest.

It was then that Ray Simmonds, principal trumpet player of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London decided a little light music was called for.
So he took out his instrument and began to play.................
'Viva Espana'.

Bless 'em all, bless 'em all,
The long and the short and the tall.

The famous advocate F. E. Smith often clashed with the Bench.
When a judge declared that Smith's remarks had not left him
much the wiser, Smith retorted:

'Not wiser, my Lord, but better informed.'

Exasperated Judge: What do you suppose I am on the Bench for, Mr. Smith?

F. E. Smith: It is not for me to fathom the inscrutable ways of Providence.
