I suggest you say that you want to start with "sleeping but on call" but are willing to re-negotiate that to "awake night care" if it turns out they are either up more than XX hours per night or get called more than once or twice in an on call night.

Or you could contact your local centre for independent living - they will have people with expertise in dealing with this.  regards, Deb
