Title: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Admin on 04 Nov 2011 10:01AM
Okay so modify this post so it does not include the word (rude word removed by moderator)

First test worked - second not quite so simple!  I managed to delete the post but sending a warning?  Not sure about that one - is it done through the 'Moderation Centre' option because I couldn't see it  >doh<

Sorry I thought it was in the thread but when I checked I can see this is how to get there>

Click on the members avatar to go to their profile.
On the left hand side it says Summary above that there is an Actions option click that.
A small box appears with 4 options choose issue a warning.
Next you get to choose the warning level and some other options

I gave the Quietly Loud account a 5 % warning so if you do the same it will bring the warning level to the point at which premoderation is set and we can see how that works,

The 'Actions' option only gives me one single option, to send the member a PM.  Perhaps the other options are only enabled for the Administrator?  Unless you can give permissions to the moderators as well....

I am back and will look at that now :-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread

I have enabled more items for global moderators like you and Kizzy.

Issue warnings to members (we will need to decide a policy on this eg the threashold at which pre moderation beginings)

Post and edit own events on the calendar.

Manage banned list- which includes email addresses and ips.

Send forum email to members.

You can also now manage attachments and avatars.
I have enabled everything in the Moderate the board list and so you have the same permissions I do.

If both you and Hossy (when she gets here) work you way through things to see what you can do and if there is anything I missed let me know :-)

Righty-ho, I've just found two more options: 'Issue A Warning' and 'Ban This User'.  So I have increased the warning level to a maximum of 25% (increases of up to 20% only allowed in a 24-hour period, it informs me).  This has triggered 'being watched' - which shows on the user profile.  As each increment is 5%, that could equate to 1 'naughty post'.  So 5 bad posts (25%) could result in pre-moderation?  Depending on the severity of course; if we get an obvious troll, 1 post would result in an insta-ban anyway...

I've also issued a warning to the 'QuietlyLoud' account  >thumbsup<

Where would I find the banned list?  I am thinking you will be transferring over some 'names'  >whistle< ;-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 04 Nov 2011 02:55PM
If you look below Quietly Louds avatar there is a green icon and the word watched :-)

Increments of 5% sound good  and 5 'bad' resulting in pre mod would be a good place to start. The only way we are going to know how to balance things is by experience.

Btw right now I have it set so regular members cant see that another member has been warned.

I am switching to QL and post again :-)

This is great because after switched accounts and came back the program noticed i had not read the most recent post and a red message came up.

Here is a screen shot > remember to click on the thumnail to get a bigger version of the picture.

Here are two screen shots of when I posted as QL.

Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Admin on 04 Nov 2011 03:33PM
so I guess I am going to be moderated for a while huh?
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 04 Nov 2011 03:36PM
I posted again as QL and this time I just clicked on the Talk heading and the QL post is here with a pinky red background.

Kizzy you can approve it :-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 04 Nov 2011 03:45PM
This is how the settings look. I especially like the way people can have their points reduced incrementaly because it means if someone posts a lot before we see it and take action we can add warnings which increases the red and will take longer to lose. Sorry that is not a very well said description now is it lol

see screenshot

Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 04 Nov 2011 03:51PM
Interesting - when I clicked onto 'Talk' there was a red exclamation mark besides its heading on the main page and a notice at the top saying:

! There are 0 topics and 1 posts awaiting approval in this board. Click here to view them all.

I just approved QL's 'am I going to be moderated for a while' post  >biggrin<

I'm going to go back and edit one of 'her' posts  ;-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 04 Nov 2011 08:00PM
I'm sure I made another post after this one - no matter...

I've looked at all the screenshots and I can't see what I'm supposed to be looking at with the 'traffic lights' - is it the symbol under QL's avatar which also says 'moderated'?  Sorry for being so thick  >blush<
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 04 Nov 2011 10:09PM
Kizzy,

Sorry  >blush< I slipped into not explaining enough. When a member is warned the icon and wording under their avatar is green, when they get put under pre moderation it goes to orange and then when their posts are blocked it goes to red.

It is not actual traffic lights.

Hugs remember I have had more time with the program than you and you being here is helping me work out what I need to do eg screen shoots walk throughs ect.

I am watching BB the interview should be good but I wont say who got evicted in case you are waiting until tomorrow to watch it.

Post by: KizzyKazaer on 05 Nov 2011 10:21AM
Thanks for not posting a 'spoiler'  ;-)

I get it now about the warning icons - I think I got muddled because I didn't see the process of them changing!

Got another test - can QL post something which will not be approved and then we can find out if they are notified when their post fails to pass pre-mod....
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 05 Nov 2011 10:35AM
- have just removed the waiting-to-be-approved post....
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 05 Nov 2011 11:25AM
The QL account did not get notified that the post was rejected. I posted again using the QL log in and could see there are only two options approve or reject and no option to notify. It is good to have a better idea of how the system works.

If you look at QL's info on this thread it has orange text, could you go and warn QL again and see that it turns red :-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 05 Nov 2011 11:39AM
I've issued another warning, but I couldn't increase the level from 55% due to the '24-hour rule' - still seems to be on orange  >erm<

PS - I've got to go out for a bit, BBL  :-)
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 05 Nov 2011 03:48PM
I have doubled the warning limit to 40  >biggrin<
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 05 Nov 2011 05:45PM
Ooh, I just increased it to 60% and it all went red - 'user will not be able to post'  >biggrin<

Then I didn't include that information on the warning issued  >doh<

I'm just itching to ban QL >lol<

Off out to parents' tonight, see you in the morning sometime  >hugs<

LOL I am working on adding a Gallery to Ouch Too at the moment and bill log as QL soon. I think not able to post means QL can still read and banned is cant do ANYTHING lol. I will let you ban QL tomorrow and we can see what that looks like. only thing is is dont ban my ip or I wont be able to access the site as myself or Ouch Too Archive.

I hope you have a lovely evening  >hugs<

Just tried to give QL a full ban (to test if the forum becomes unreadable to QL) but for some reason it didn't save what I'd entered - on mum's PC at the mo, will try again at home without distractions!
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread

I will try to log in as Quietly Loud now.  >whistle<
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 06 Nov 2011 10:18AM
Using the QL account now I can't post but I can read the board. I will go and look at the admin settings. Remember it is important that QL is not ip banned otherwise I wont be able to get in at all.

To test the system further I could ask my sister to join and ban her (she wont mind).
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 06 Nov 2011 10:27AM
Kizzy you set the ban correctly (see screenshot), but it still lets me read the board.

When people have been banned on Aimoo I usually ban their ip too which we cant do with QL, so I will get my sister to join because she is far away up north and has a different ip.

Post by: KizzyKazaer on 06 Nov 2011 12:04PM
Ah, so it did save my settings after all - phew!

Remember it is important that QL is not ip banned otherwise I wont be able to get in at all.

That'd be a good start, wouldn't it - me banning you  >doh< >yikes< >lol<

Look forward to practising on your sis - good idea, that  >biggrin<
Title: Re: Moderation testing thread
Post by: Sunshine Meadows on 06 Nov 2011 01:46PM
 >lol< yes it would be funny but only for 5 minutes.

I really like the way we can determine so many settings eg we can put a time limit on a ban eg 2 days, which means the automated system takes care of the unbanning.

I will phone my sister soon and see when she is free to come and play.
:-)

Kizzy,

Please see Palindrome's thread for more info and then look at these screen shots. With my sister's help I was able to see there are two places we need to write the name when name banning. Please see arrows in screenshots below.
 >tah<

It is good to be able to work together to understand how and why  >thumbsup<

I am going offline for a bit I'll be back later.

This post has been removed by moderator as insulting to other users and board staff.

PS - so as not to alarm anyone, this was part of a moderation test!

This is part of a moderation test....

Nice one, Pink, now if someone else could report your post and announce they've done it.....

(if it was being done 'for real', of course, the reporting poster would remain anonymous to other posters like on the Beeb boards, I assume - only one way to find out  >biggrin<)

Thanks, Sherbs - it has just notified me (below the 'Hello' [name] at the top left-hand corner, 'there are currently (1) moderator reports open) so I don't even have to check PMs.  I am now going to use the 'Moderate' option to take action on the post...

- ooh, that's interesting.  I went to submit this post and a warning came up in a red box above the Subject line:

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Wow KK, looks like the reporting is working, as now being told that this post has been removed etc...  Good stuff
Title: Re: This board
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 06 Nov 2011 08:53PM
- Thanks to Hurtyback also for reporting the test post - both of your explanations for why the reporting took place were on display to me  >thumbsup<  I haven't deleted the post outright as I wasn't sure if the whole thread would disappear, being as the 'offending' post was the opener - I don't want to lose our hard work   >lol<  That can be tested tomorrow, perhaps  >biggrin<

Thanks again all for helping out with this  >star<
Title: Re: This board
Post by: KizzyKazaer on 06 Nov 2011 09:01PM
Note for Sunshine and Hossy - the 'Moderation Centre' does not contain the options for action on the post (delete/edit, etc) - rather it is a notifier and a record of posts reported and action taken.  If that makes sense  ;-)

I think I need my bed  >zzz<  Will have a go at thread merging tomorrow  :-)

Allow me to indulge in a bit of blowing own trumpetage - I've merged Pink's test thread 'This Board' with this thread.  First time I've ever merged a thread before  >magicfairy<

Little things please little minds  >lol<

I also discovered in my e-mail inbox this morning (which I never thought to check last night!) a notification that Pink's post had been complained about via the 'Report To Moderator' option, so that's two different ways the mods are going to be alerted to a reported post  >thumbsup<

Kizzy,

 >star< I always get a moment of nerves when I create a merge a thread because I have illogical thoughts that 'internet gremlins' will steal posts.  >lol<
